+Assassination
The assassination spec is used more so for burst dmg with a constant amount of damage. It makes your poisons less resistible and enables you to rack up more combo points.
I personally have never been under the assassin tree very long, and originally thought it to be only for the mutilate ability, Instantly attacks with both weapons for an additional 101 for each weapon. Damage is increased by 50% against poisoned targets. Must be behind the target. Awards 2 combo points, but found myself very much mistaken. This is a balanced spec between the other two, without inhancing stealth.
+Combat
DPS spec, with constant damage but no helpful burst. Great for leveling quickly, This is great for a rogue who wants to not rely on his opener and be able to dish out DPS with plenty of defensive moves to boot.
The really good thing I have found out about this spec is the ability Blade Furry, Increases your attack speed by 20%. In addition, attacks strike an additional nearby opponent. Lasts 15 seconds. , this is the ONLY attack a rogue gets to hit more then one opponent under any spec tree.
+Subtlety
Burst damage. If you like to to kill oponents, or at least bring them down a little quicker, with the initial attack, and stay hidden at any other point, then subtlety is a way to go.
In subtlety you unlock a very usefull move called Shadowstep, Attempts to step through the shadows and reappear behind your enemy and increases movement speed by 70% for 3 sec. The damage of your next ability is increased by 20% and the threat caused is reduced by 50%. Lasts 10 seconds. I have found this ability to be extreamly useful in pvp combat, as well in pve.
